Bloomington – The Bloomington/Monroe County Convention & Visitors Bureau (BMCCVB) is officially announcing the first round of recipients of its initial tourism marketing grant program. The newly launched program provides funding for the marketing of events exhibiting positive tourism potential to the Monroe County area. These funds are to assist qualified organizations with the promotion of tourism activities that will directly increase lodging occupancy and create positive image building publicity for Bloomington and Monroe County. Funds are to be used for specific marketing projects targeting potential visitors outside a 50-mile radius of Bloomington. Participants hope that the extra advertising dollars can lure additional visitors to the area, despite the current tough economic climate.

Grant applications were accepted beginning in July, 2008. Proposals were judged by a panel of CVB staff members, hoteliers and CVB board members. The successful applicants represent a true cross-section of both new and previously existing events set to take place throughout the calendar year 2009, literally from January – December. Event dates, ability to generate room nights, potential for event growth and resulting economic impact to the community were all significant criteria considered when determining award allocations.
