Evansville, Ind. -- The City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County have agreed to join their purchasing department with the EVSC under a Cooperative Purchasing Organization (CPO) to help cut costs and create efficiencies.

The City is always investigating more effective and efficient ways to save taxpayer dollars. By combining purchasing departments with the EVSC, we have a tremendous opportunity to leverage our needs to negotiate lower costs, said Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel. We are saving money by governing better and smarter.

A purchasing agent will be designated under the CPO to act on behalf of the City, County and EVSC, giving the CPO more collective purchasing power to negotiate lower prices and enhanced services. Jim Harris, the Director of Operations for EVSC, will serve in that capacity. Harris has experience with the bid process, cost savings and dealing with local vendors. City-County employees will still be responsible for City-County purchasing, but will be managed by Harris.
